corcalos is an avian city-state perched on a mountain top overlooking the corcalos strait. it is a cosmopolitan crossroads and a hub for trade.

the lower city is a port, with a diverse population. sea routes between nachria and melissa run through these waters. as the tide rises, whirlpools form on the narrower east mouth of the strait, so travel is highly constrained by time of day. a bypass canal has been under construction for many years.

the western cliffs receive moisture from the sea, and are covered in mosses, ferns, honeysuckle, hydrangea, and highbush blueberry. this area is historically sparsely populated as the avian class historically prefers the drier east cliffs, but as the upper city becomes more welcoming to foreigners, more people have settled here.

the eastern cliffs resemble a citadel. natural caverns and overhangs form a superstructure around which avians have built many homes, once of wood, now of brick. pulleys are used to transport goods from the ports below. moss rose and grow heres, its long vines sometimes dangling off ledges.
