i like to sing. unfortunately i have a bass voice.

in college, i did a cappella. i enjoyed this quite a bit, because in a cappella, bass is not actually a human role. it can be more accurately described as “base”. the goal of a base is to sound as much like a table as possible. so that the others can stand on it and be heard better.

so i sang base, which i liked. in college, i found it difficult to rely on anyone, as the hot sanba air seems to have made most people into flowers. needing stability, i could bring it myself when i sang base. best was when i sang base with azalea. it felt like flying. but i was not the one flying. it would end, and i would return to my room, and be stuck in the mud.

i have also sung base with some of my more chaotic friends. it feels like i am accessing something that others wouldn’t be able to. i feel special. we click. i am a flexible base.

at the end of the day, a base is not beautiful.
