trainsworld privacy
Last updated 25 October 2026
trainsworld is a railway building game that runs in your browser. It is a hobby project run by one person, Anita. This page describes what it stores about you.
Without an account
Your games are saved in your own browser and are never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them.
The game also keeps a random id for this browser in its storage. It is sent only while you are signed in (below), and says nothing about your computer.
With an account
Signing in is optional. The account is the same one used by noritetsu, another map on this site, so signing in on one signs you in on the other. If you sign in, the server keeps:
- With Google sign-in, the account number Google gives this app. Your Google name, email address and photo are not stored.
- With a username and password, your username and a one-way hash of your password (the password itself is not stored), plus a recovery email address if you add one.
- Your games, so you can open them on another device. While you are signed in, each game in your browser is copied to the server whenever it is saved: the game itself (your network, money, game clock and the name you gave it), the figures shown on its card (day, cities, lines, stations, cash), a small picture of its network, when it was saved, and the random id of the browser that saved it. The server also keeps up to two older copies of each game. Games you choose to keep only in your browser when you sign in are not sent. Your IP address, browser and device name are not stored with them.
- For each game you play while signed in: its points in total and per city, and its game day. Sandbox games send nothing but the fact that they are sandboxes.
- If you join the leaderboards, the display name you choose.
Everything travels to the server over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). On the server it is stored without encryption, on a computer Anita rents for this site.
A recovery email is used only to confirm the address and to send password reset links. Those emails are sent through Resend.
What other people can see
If you join the leaderboards, your display name and your best points are public, on the world leaderboard and on the leaderboard of each city where you have points. Your username and email are never shown to anyone. Nothing is public if you do not join.
Your games are private. Only you can open them, when signed in; no one else's account can list or read them. Anita runs the server, so she can read the files on it.
Other things
There are no ads, and trainsworld does not use tracking cookies or sell or share your data. The server sees your IP address with each request and uses it to limit abuse; it is not kept with your account. The game loads its data from Cloudflare and its map from OpenFreeMap, and the sign-in button from Google when you open the account panel; those services see requests as they would from any website.
The server's whole disk is backed up once a day and each backup is kept for 7 days, so a deleted game or account can stay in the backups for up to 7 days after you delete it.
Deleting your data
Deleting a saved game while signed in removes it from the server straight away, with its older copies and its scores. Your other browsers delete their copy the next time they open trainsworld, unless the game was changed there.
You can delete your account from the account panel in the game or on noritetsu. That removes your login details, email address, games, scores and leaderboard entries, and your noritetsu rides, from the server straight away. The games in your browser stay there.
